A 46-year-old Umatilla woman was arrested on drug charges after meth residue and fentanyl were found in a bag with feminine products during a traffic stop in Eustis.

Renee Lynn Switzer, of 30 Walkman St. Lot 30, was charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by a Eustis police officer at 12:37 a.m. Friday for failing to stop behind a clearly marked stop bar on Woodward Avenue at Center Street, according to the police report.

The driver of the vehicle told the officer they were trying to go to Lakeshore Drive but missed their turn and were lost. The officer noted the vehicle had passed Eustis, Grove and Morin streets – all of which could have brought the vehicle back to Lakeshore Drive. Another officer arrived as backup and asked the driver for permission to search the vehicle, which was granted, the report said.

A K-9 officer arrived to assist with the search. On the back seat of the vehicle was a black bag containing a black digital scale with a white crystal-like residue. Also in the bag was a small plastic container with latex gloves that had more of the white crystal-like residue. There were two syringes – one of them was used and the other contained a brown liquid. The crystal-like residue tested positive for methamphetamine, while brown substance tested positive for fentanyl. All the illegal items were in a bag containing feminine products, according to the report.

Switzer admitted to owning the bag with the illegal items. Asked about her narcotic use, she said she uses methamphetamine and ingests it by “shooting” it into her vein with a needle. Switzer said the last time she used meth was about three days earlier. She said she does not use heroin or fentanyl and was unsure how it got into her belongings, the report said.

Switzer was arrested and taken to the Eustis Police Department for booking and then to the Lake County Jail. She’s being held on $3,000 bond and will appear in Lake County Court on June 6.
