A Leesburg man with multiple prior arrests was charged in connection with a strong-arm robbery at a local motel.

Adrian Jamar Miller, 36, of 2440 Silver Point St., was charged with robbery without a weapon, grand theft of between $750 and $5,000, and simple battery. He was arrested Sunday after eluding law enforcement for more than a week after the incident, which happened around 5:30 a.m. April 16 at the Rodeway Inn, 1115 W. North Blvd. Lake County Jail records show Miller has been arrested five other times since 2018, most recently in March on similar charges.

The victim told a Leesburg police officer he was watching television inside his room with a female friend when they heard a knock on the door. The victim looked outside and saw Miller, who he also knows as “Buck.” The victim didn’t know why Miller was outside his door. He said he told the female not to open the door, but she refused to listen and opened the door for Miller, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The victim said Miller told the female to throw the victim’s phone to him and she complied with the request. The victim demanded Miller return the phone, but he refused and they started fighting inside the motel room, the report said.

The victim was thrown to the ground inside the hotel room and Miller reached inside the victim’s pockets and stole $50 from him. The victim tried to retrieve his money and cell phone from Miller and they started fighting in the hallway. The victim stopped trying to get his property back and the fighting stopped. Miller left the scene with the female, heading westbound, according to the report.

The victim’s cell phone is a black Samsung Galaxy Ultra Note 20 valued at $1,000. The officer observed a bruise, bump and abrasion on the victim’s right temple, as well as abrasions on his left cheek and a cut to his upper lip. The officer reviewed security footage and saw the men fighting in the hallway, the report said.

The officer determined there was probable cause and an arrest warrant was issued. Miller was arrested by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and is being held on $60,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on May 23.
