A Leesburg woman was arrested in Tavares early Thursday morning when drugs were found in her pockets and bra.

According to the Tavares Police report, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a gold Buick that did not have a tag assigned to the car. After explaining the reason for the stop, he asked for permission to search the vehicle, which the driver denied.

While the officer wrote a warning ticket, a Lake County K-9 deputy arrived and performed an open air sniff search around the vehicle. When the dog alerted on the car, the officer had the occupants step out. The sole passenger in the rear seat, 26-year-old Brittney Brown, tried to take her purse with her. The officer told her all items including her purse would remain in the car until they had been searched.

Inside the purse, the officer found a pipe with the residue of burnt marijuana and a baggy that contained a small amount of a crystal substance. Brown’s left-front pocket yielded a folded piece of cardboard that contained a small amount of white crystalline powder. When searching Brown’s bra, the officer saw multiple burnt cigars containing marijuana, according to the arrest report. The officer also found a folded dollar bill that contained a substance that field tested as methamphetamine.

Brown was transported to the Lake County Jail, where she was booked on a charge of possession of controlled substance. Bond was set at $2,000.
