Ernest Tom passed away at home on the 31st of December, 2021 in Leesburg, FL. He was born on the 21st of July, 1922 in Houma, LA to his parents, Yuen Chong Tom and Shee Gee. His family moved to Canton, China where he met and married his wife, Gee Chun Fong, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. He joined the United States Army and worked in Intelligence in the South Pacific during World War ll. In 2021, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his military service. Ernest moved with his wife and daughter, Constance, to New York, New York where he lived until 2012. Ernest was an electronics technician who worked at various companies, including Loral, IBM and Kodak. In November 2012, he moved to Leesburg, Florida to live with his daughter. Ernest was known by his family as a hardworking, modest, caring, thoughtful, considerate man of few words with a good sense of humor who instilled in his children the importance of a strong work ethic, family pride, and good citizenship. He enjoyed music, especially classical and Hawaiian music. He played the guitar and Hawaiian steel guitar. He also enjoyed reading business publications, watching Jeopardy and cooking shows, and following the stock market on CNN. Ernest is survived by his children, Constance Fung and Carl Tom of Honolulu, Hawaii, four grandchildren, Gregory, Christopher, Derek and Julia, and 5 great-grandchildren, Evan, Grayson, Braden, Vivienne, and Temperance,. A graveside service will be held at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY at a later date.
