Lula Mae Lucas-Thomas was born on October 18, 1927 in Baxley, Georgia to the late George and Louvenia Jackson Lucas. Another daughter was born to this union, Alvenia Lucas- Bowers (deceased). Preceding Lula in death was her husband, Ivory Thomas and her brother, Eugene Miller. Lula was a hard worker (Rockford College as a custodian, L J Clark as a line worker, and other jobs as a caretaker, cook, and  housekeeper) working three jobs at one time to maintain her rental properties and her personal domicile  Although she did not have any biological children, she nurtured and provided care for countless children from diverse backgrounds including  her brother, nieces, and nephews. She was quick with her hands earning her the nickname of “Microwave Mae”. Prior to moving to Leesburg, Florida in 1987 to be near her only sister Alvenia, Lula lived in West Palm Beach, Florida, New York, New York, and Rockford, Illinois. Lula devoted her life to God at an early and was last a member of Church of God in Christ in Leesburg, Florida under the leadership of Elder Ernest Tolbert. In contrast to her sister, Alvenia, Lula was a no nonsense, straight shooter, direct person who did not take anything from anyone and in her own words “No punching and foolishness from no one” During the time she lived in West Palm Beach, New York and Rockford, she was known to always have a bible nearby and her gun in purse for protection. This sister did not play around and she has had to make this clear to a few persons who were strangers and family members who. She has always shown love for her family, church members, and selective friends. In her latter years, she became more humble and dispose of her gun because without any doubt she was preparing to live eternity with our Heavenly Father.Lula will be greatly missed by her uncle Thomas Jackson, nephews, Rosevelt Hughes (Velma-deceased), Rudolph Bowers (Iona), niece, Jean Caldwell,  God-sons, Sammy and Glenn along with a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 Brothers and sisters we do not want you to be uninformed  about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
