A Leesburg woman was arrested after allegedly attacking her disabled half brother and her mother at the Lady Lake Winn-Dixie.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident which led to the arrest began on the afternoon of Dec. 17 at the Winn-Dixie located in Lady Lake.

The woman, 20-year-old Katherine Hesidence, was in the store with her mother and minor half brother. A disagreement between the siblings led to Hesidence and her bother exchanging blows. The affidavit states that the boy has several medical conditions and is considered handicapped. The mother was able to get her children calmed down and they left the store. However, the siblings began to argue while in the family car. Hesidence started swinging a small knife around in the car and took a pepper spray canister out of her purse and sprayed the boy. The mother almost crashed the car as Hesidence swung the knife around. After spraying her brother with the paper spray Hesidence slapped her mother. The mother was able to drop her daughter off at a friend’s house, went home and called the deputies.

The Lake County deputy viewed marks on the boy’s face and arms which the mother said were caused by her daughter. The deputy was able to locate Hesidence at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital where she sought treatment for injuries suffered while fighting with her brother. The deputy collected a knife from her and she admitted to having pepper spray although she claimed she did not use it. The deputy asked the hospital employees to contact him when she was released but was unable to return to the hospital because he was out on another call when Hesidence was released.

A warrant was issued and she was taken into custody the day after Christmas.

Hesidence was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-domestic and two counts of simple battery. She was released after posting $3,000.
