Second pedestrian in same day dies at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital after being struck by automobile

A second pedestrian has died at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital after being struck by an automobile.

Jarrett Roque, 40, of Howey-in-the-Hills, was struck shortly before midnight Thursday by a 2021 Jeep sport utility vehicle driven by 61-year-old Awilda Hernandez of Eustis, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

A witness said Roque was in the center travel lane of U.S. Hwy. 441 when he was struck by the SUV, which had been southbound. Rogue was transported to the hospital by Lake EMS and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

This crash remains under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department Traffic Unit, however the pedestrian appears to have been “at-fault” in the crash at this time.

It was the second crash Thursday in Leesburg resulting in the death of a pedestrian. Another pedestrian was struck at about 1 a.m. Thursday and was pronounced dead at the hospital in Leesburg.
