A wanted man was apprehended in Leesburg thanks to a tipster.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy received a tip this past Friday that a man wanted on a Polk County warrant was driving a white Genesis southbound on U.S. Hwy. 441. The deputy was able to locate the vehicle and identify the man wanted by the Polk county authorities as 29-year-old Danzel Richardson of Sanford.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop with the assistance of Leesburg police officers at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and Sleepy Hollow Road.
After Richardson had been detained, a K-9 officer had his dog perform an open air sniff of Richardson’s car. Richardson admitted to deputies that he had marijuana in the vehicle’s center console. The deputies recovered more than 20 grams of a green leafy substance which field tested as marijuana.
Richardson was charged with the third-degree felony of possession of marijuana over 20 grams and was also arrested on the Polk County warrant charging him with driving while license suspended. He was booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,250 bond.
