A Leesburg man was jailed after an alleged attack on his wife landed her in a local hospital.

The wife of 33-year-old Kristopher Stokes said she had gone to the grocery store Tuesday night when she received a call from her husband, demanding she bring him $2,000, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Suspecting his need for cash was fueled by a desire for illicit drugs, the woman refused to get him the money.

Stokes was apparently enraged and attacked his wife upon her return to their home on Crestrun Loop. He repeatedly smashed her in her face with his fist, knocking her to the floor. He threw her cell phone at her, hitting her in the back of the head under the left ear. She was bleeding so badly from that blow that she was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Three minor children were at the home and one witnessed the attack. That child verified her account of the beating.

Stokes was arrested on a third-degree felony charge of domestic battery. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $7,500 bond.

In addition to a prior arrest for battery, Stokes was arrested earlier this year on a charge of possession of cocaine. In 2020, he was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
