Vernon Edward Greene went home to be with his Lord on November 21, 2021, at the age of 70. Vern was born in Augusta Georgia to Henry Edward Greene and Gussie Mae Sturkie Greene on June 6, 1951. He was the oldest of their four children.
Vern had a love for music. He played the guitar and keyboard both in church and at public events. He also wrote many songs both gospel and secular which he shared with his family, friends, and audiences for their enjoyment. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. Vern served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years earning various awards, medals, and certifications. His fondest memories were his time serving on the U.S.S. Forrestal and the US.S. John F. Kennedy.
Vern is preceded in death by his father, Henry Edward Greene, his mother Gussie Mae Sturkie Greene, his brother, Henry Dexter Greene, and an infant daughter, Angela Diane Greene. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Edithe Wynne Greene. He also has a son, Taylor Edward Greene, and a stepdaughter, Christina Payne. Vern has two sisters, Linda Bridgmon (Gean) and Judy Duncan (Mike). Sister-in-laws, Cindy Greene, Cheryl McKinney, brother-in-law, Milton Cannon (Krissy) and mother-in-law Betty Cannon. He has numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who loved him dearly. Vern and Wynne have two devoted, fur-baby Shih Tzu’s, Cody and Rusty.
