Lake County residents to see trash collection shift by one day due to Thanksgiving

All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector and the Lake County Extension Center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving and will reopen Monday, Nov. 29.

The Lake County Solid Waste Division will suspend curbside collection on Thanksgiving Day. Collection normally scheduled for Thursday will shift to Friday, and Friday collection will occur on Saturday. Lake County’s Central Solid Waste Facility landfill operations, located at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares, will be closed for Thanksgiving but will operate normally on Friday. Residential convenience centers, as well as customer service, will be closed both Thursday and Friday.

Except for bulk items, any excess trash or recycling, either bagged or placed into a non-county trash cart, will be accepted from Friday, Nov. 26 – Friday, Dec. 3. To request collection of bulk items, such as furniture, appliances

and other large household items, residents should notify their hauler directly or contact Solid Waste at 352-343-3776. No hazardous waste items will be collected. For additional information, visit https://lakecountyfl.gov/trash-recycling.

The Lake County Animal Shelter, located at 12280 County Road 448 in Tavares, will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26, and open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Lake County Connection, the County’s disadvantaged transportation service, and LakeXpress, the fixed-route bus system, will not operate on Thanksgiving, but will resume regular services Friday, Nov. 26.
