A motorcyclist was arrested on a drunk driving charge after leaving Leesburg Bikefest.
A police officer clocked the motorcycle traveling at 69 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone shortly before midnight Friday. The biker pulled into a gas station at 9532 U.S. Hwy. 441 in Leesburg.
The officer noted in his report that the man had trouble lifting his right leg over the motorcycle. The officer made contact with the motorcyclist who identified himself as 58-year-old Lawrence Green of Tavares. The officer noted that Green had bloodshot eyes and claimed he only had one beer that night.
Green failed standard field sobriety tests. The California native was taken into custody. A search of the motorcycle revealed that Green had a loaded pistol in his backpack.
Green was transported to the Leesburg Police Department where he refused to take a breathalyzer test. A records check showed that he had been convicted of felony theft in 2009 and has three previous drunk driving convictions. Green was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of driving under the influence, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon. He was released after posting $30,000 bond.
