A Leesburg murder suspect was tracked down thanks in part to his Facebook profile.

Carl Edward Scott Jr., 50, on June 6, 2021 attacked and stabbed Stephen Palmer, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Palmer was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he was able to tell Lake County Sheriff’s Office detectives that a man known to him as “Scotty” had stabbed him. Detectives checked “Scotty’s” Facebook page and determined it was Scott, a native of Ohio.

Palmer’s condition deteriorated and he died on July 21. The autopsy report determined Palmer died due to puncture wounds to his chest.

At the time of his arrest, Scott was also charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines.)

He was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $253,000.
