Video surveillance from the Sunshine Food Mart on West North Boulevard helped Leesburg police catch a suspected bicycle thief.

The bicycle’s owner contacted police Wednesday and reported he went into the store and when he came out, his bicycle had vanished. After getting a description of the bicycle from the victim, police obtained video surveillance from the store. The video showed a thin white man wearing a black shirt and dark shorts take the bicycle. He was also wearing a backward baseball-style cap.

Police canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Early the next morning a Leesburg police officer stopped 29-year-old Sherman James lll who was wearing exactly the same clothes as the man in the video.

James, who has two previous theft convictions, was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The Jackson, Miss. native was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,000 bond.
