A Leesburg sex offender was arrested Wednesday, 12 days after his release from a Florida prison.

When 36-year-old Christopher Shea showed up to register with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, detectives wanted to know why he had not registered his new address within 48 hours of his release from the Florida Department of Corrections. Shea had been convicted of sending harmful materials to minors in 2017 and was released from prison on Oct. 1.

Shea claimed he had been told he would be within the requirements if he registered within 48 hours of getting to his Leesburg residence. Prior to his arrival in Leesburg, he claimed he had been staying with his girlfriend.

He was placed under arrest for failing to register and update his Florida I.D. card within the required 48 hour time frame. He was booked into the Lake County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
