A 22-year-old Leesburg man was arrested after he got bogged down in school zone traffic after trying to outrun a Florida Highway Patrol trooper.

Vincent Ray Menditto was at the wheel of a white Ford when he was clocked traveling 96 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone on State Road 46, according to an arrest report from the FHP. The trooper began pursuing Menditto’s vehicle, but the Ford weaved in and out of traffic until the driver turned right onto Round Lake Road in Mount Dora. Once on Round Lake Road, the Ford was forced to slow down because of the heavy school traffic. The trooper was then able to stop the Ford.

Menditto was arrested on a felony charge of fleeing to elude a law enforcement office at a high speed, a felony. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
