A suspect was arrested on a felony charge of criminal mischief after allegedly causing damage at Ski Beach in Leesburg.

An off-duty Leesburg Police Department lieutenant was at Ski Beach when he saw a white pickup truck driving up and down the grassy area of the beach. He described the truck as doing “burnouts on the grass” and tearing the lawn up for a distance of over 650 feet, according to an arrest report.

The lieutenant summoned a traffic patrol officer who responded to the call and spoke with 20-year-old Jeferson Aguilar of Leesburg.

The officer contacted the deputy director of public works for the city who came to view the damage to the grass. The deputy director estimated that it would cost approximately $2,500 to repair the damage and that she would sign paperwork indicating an intent to prosecute.

Aguilar was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond.
