Elderly Leesburg couple killed in crash near Lakeridge Winery

An elderly Leesburg couple died in a crash Sunday afternoon near Lakeridge Winery in Clermont.

A 76-year-old Leesburg man had been at the wheel of a sedan at 3 p.m. eastbound on Vineyard Way when he attempted to make a left turn to travel north on U.S. Hwy. 27, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He turned directly into the path of a northbound pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old Oklahoma City man. The front of his truck struck the left side of the sedan.

The Leesburg man along with a 72-year-old female passenger from Leesburg died at the scene of the crash.

The Oklahoma City man suffered minor injuries.

All three had been wearing their seat belts, the report noted.
