A man from Honduras was arrested after allegedly threatening his drinking buddy with a hammer.

Gustavo Aldolfo Alvia Sierra, 62, was arrested Thursday night by Leesburg police officers who responded to his home at 105 N. 14th St. after another man claimed he had been assaulted with a hammer.

Alvia Sierra, who does not speak English and required translation through a  bilingual Lake County sheriff’s deputy, showed them the hammer which was in the bedroom, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He claimed he was defending himself.

It was determined that Sierra is a Honduran national, therefore he was advised of the right of a foreign national to have the consulate notified. Alvia Sierra said he did not wish for the consulate to be notified.

He was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,000 bond.
