A Lake County Sheriff’s Office K-9 assisted in the arrest of a Leesburg man suspected of selling drugs.

Richard Coulter, 52, was pulled over Thursday morning when his Dodge Charger drifted over a fog line on northbound U.S. Hwy. 441 in Tavares, according to an arrest report. A deputy asked Coulter for permission to search his vehicle, but Coulter would not consent to the search. A K-9 alerted on the vehicle, signaling the likely presence of drugs.

A search of the vehicle turned up a black-zippered case in the vehicle’s engine compartment. It contained 27.85 grams of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, a digital scale and numerous small plastic bags.

Coulter was arrested on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $38,000 bond.
