A teenager in a stolen car was arrested after fleeing a crash scene Saturday morning in Leesburg.

Dallas John Cook, 19, of Silver Springs, was involved in the crash at 6:15 a.m. and was stopped by a Leesburg police officer who spotted the front-end damage to the vehicle.

While Cook was being processed, the arresting officer was contacted by a Fruitland Park officer who had contacted the daughter-in-law of the registered owner of the vehicle Cook had been driving. That individual had not realized the vehicle had been taken without permission.

Cook  was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle without driver’s license, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and theft of a motor vehicle, which is a felony.

Cook was transported to the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $6,000.
