Leesburg police have tracked down a suspect who allegedly stole merchandise from Walmart.

Justin Ross, 36, was booked Thursday at the Lake County Jail on a warrant charging him with felony theft.

A loss prevention officer at the store had been viewing surveillance on July 29 when a man with a beard entered the store through the grocery section. The individual was then observed picking up a backpack from the sporting goods area and going into the electronics department where he put several items in a cart and then headed to the shoe department. The suspect was then observed putting the items in the backpack. He left the store without paying for any merchandise.

The loss prevention officer was joined by another employee and confronted the suspect outside the store. The suspect dropped the backpack and fled on foot. The items in the backpack included batteries, flashlights, chargers and cellphone accessories which had a value of $171.10.

When police officers reviewed the tape they recognized the suspect as Ross, who has a long list of prior arrests.

He was booked at the jail on $2,000 bond.
