A Lake County man has been charged with stealing a truck while the owner was busy loading his boat.

Todd Matthew Curry, 37, of Lady Lake, was arrested at 3:53 p.m. Monday after attempting to drive off with a Toyota Tacoma belonging to a man who was securing items on his boat at the Venetian Gardens boat ramp in Leesburg, according to an arrest affidavit from the Leesburg Police Department.

As Curry was driving away in the truck, the vehicle’s owner and his co-workers chased him on foot and caught up with him while he was making a U-turn in front of Pat Thomas Stadium at 246 Ball Park Road, according to police.

The owner and his friends then pulled open the driver’s door, climbed in and managed to detain Curry until police arrived, the affidavit states.

Curry was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,000 bond. His court date is set for Sept. 8.
