A Leesburg man is facing charges of retail theft, drug possession and violating parole after trying to steal an air conditioner unit and box of Legos from a Walmart.
Cecil Silvers, 27, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Sunday after police responded to a call from the Walmart at 2501 Citrus Blvd., which provided them with surveillance video confirming the attempted theft.
While en route to the store, police recognized Silvers and his black GMC Jimmy SUV from the description provided, and another unit was re-routed to pursue him.
Officers caught up with Silvers in the parking lot of a McDonald’s at 1012 N. 14th St., where he was taken into custody.
During a search of Silvers’ truck, police found a small plastic bag in the center console containing crystal meth. A review of his criminal history also determined he was on active felony probation for burglary and has a prior theft conviction from Sumter County from 2020.
Silvers was booked on $3,000 bond at the Lake County Jail. His court date is set for Sept. 9.
