A Leesburg man was arrested after admitting to his cocaine habit during a traffic stop.

Walter Canady, 40, was stopped by police at 12:49 a.m. Thursday after rolling through a stop sign at the corner of Harlem and Thomas avenues, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

After smelling burnt marijuana, for which Canady did not have a medical marijuana card, the deputy searched his silver Ford Explorer and found a cut straw with a white powdery residue. When asked about it, Canady admitted, “I have a cocaine habit.”

The officer also found a small bag filled with a white powdery substance stuffed between the driver’s seat and the center console. When the officer held it up to the light, Canady blurted out that it was his cocaine.

Canady was booked at the Lake County Jail on cocaine and drug paraphernalia possession charges and released on $3,000 bond.
