Habitual traffic offender arrested after nearly colliding with police car

A Leesburg man classified by as a habitual traffic offender was arrested for driving with a suspended license after nearly colliding with a police car.

Christopher Courchene, 33, was driving a gray Ford on U.S. Hwy. 441 near Leesburg International Airport at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when he turned into a left turn only lane and suddenly veered back out, almost crossing into the middle lane and forcing a deputy to swerve slightly to avoid a crash, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

When the officer pulled him over, Courchene handed him an ID card and acknowledged he did not have valid driver’s license.

Courchene has multiple arrests for reckless driving with a suspended license and a DUI conviction.

Courchene was booked at the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond.
