A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly trying to steal crab legs and steak from a local Walmart.
Willie Ray Ward, 66, was taken into custody at 1:14 p.m. Saturday and charged with shoplifting from the Walmart at 2501 Citrus Blvd. in Leesburg.
A Walmart security guard had reported seeing a man wearing a black shirt, black shorts, black socks and black baseball cap hide two bags of crab legs, two packs of ribeye steak and a pair of gym shorts in his shirt. The man, later identified as Ward, then walked through a closed checkout counter without paying for the $86 worth of merchandise. A loss prevention officere stopped him and asked him to follow her to the loss prevention office, he handed her the stolen items and left the store.
Police located Ward in the nearby Checkers parking lot across the street from the Walmart and arrested him, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Ward, who has 25 prior theft convictions, was booked at Lake County Jail and released on $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 16.
