A Leesburg woman who was found dancing with a ukulele at a gas station was arrested for allegedly stealing several bottles of alcohol from two convenience stores.
Burnete Woods, 61, of Leesburg, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Saturday outside the Wawa at 1400 W. North Blvd. Woods had just left the store with two drinks she had placed in a plastic bag, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
On arriving at the gas station, police immediately recognized Woods from a matching description of a suspect in two thefts reported earlier that night at a 711 located two miles south at 737 S. 14th St.
The 711 manager had reported that a woman wearing a pink dress with a towel on her head and a ukulele strapped around her neck entered his store at 5:30 p.m. and took three Sutter Home chardonnay wine bottles. When he confronted her, she swung the ukulele at him and ran off. The manager said Moore returned at 9:40 p.m. and took a Red Bull, a House Wine Sangria and a 14 Hands red wine without paying for them, but he followed her outside and was able to retrieve the items before calling the police.
Moore, who has prior arrests for petit theft and trespassing, was booked into the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000. Her court date is set for Aug. 3.
