A traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs in a Leesburg man’s vehicle.

Aaron Keith Powell, 29, was driving a black Chevrolet at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in Fruitland Park when an officer ran the license plate and discovered it belonged on a silver Ford four-door, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Powell admitted to the officer he put the wrong plate on the vehicle because he wanted to avoid detection as his license was suspended.

A search of the vehicle turned up 40.40 grams of marijuana as well as cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Powell was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended, attaching a tag not assigned to a vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.
