A convicted felon who attempted to flee from police was nabbed with a firearm.

Kenneth Smith, 49, of Leesburg, on July 3 was driving an older model Chevy Tahoe when he failed to come to a complete stop at an intersection. An officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Smith kept going and turned into an apartment building, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

An officer approached Smith’s Chevy Tahoe and spotted a black Taurus .45-caliber pistol in the vehicle. Smith admitted the gun belonged to him and a check confirmed he is a convicted felon.

He was arrested on charges of fleeing to elude law enforcement and possession of a firearm and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $20,000 bond
