A drunk driving suspect was put in a padded cell after physically resisting law enforcement officers.
Ericka Pickett, 38, of Leesburg, had been driving a black Volkswagen at 83 miles per hour on Saturday when she passed a squad car, according to an arrest report from the Tavares Police Department. She then increased her speed to 114 miles per hour.
During a traffic stop, Pickett was “extremely angry” and would not cooperate. It appeared she had been drinking. After a struggle, she was put into handcuffs and an officer tried to explain why she was being arrested, but he was “not successful,” the report said. When they arrived at the Lake County Jail, Pickett accused the officer of “lying and discriminating.” She got “physically aggressive” with jail staffers. She was placed in a padded cell “due to her level of combat,” the report said. An officer knocked on the door of the cell and asked Pickett to participate in field sobriety exercises. She refused. She also refused to provide a breath sample.
She was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and resisting arrest. She was booked at the jail and released after posting $7,000 bond.
