A Leesburg man was arrested after a home invasion in which he declared himself the homeowner’s “worst nightmare.”

Dan Ross Boyd, 37, who lives at 24737 Plumosa Drive, was reportedly high on LSD, had smoked marijuana and had been drinking tequila before he broke into a home in Deland at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner had been sleeping in his La-Z-Boy recliner when he woke up and saw Boyd holding his wallet and standing in his kitchen, eating an apple. The man had no idea who Boyd was and has no prior history with him, the report indicated.

When Boyd realized the homeowner was awake, he attacked him with “something sharp and blunt.” The homeowner grabbed a drywall hatchet and began to fight back.

The homeowner demanded to know “who the hell” Boyd was, the report said.

Boyd declared he was the homeowner’s “worst nightmare.” Boyd then fled the home.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 truck with Texas plates in the middle of the roadway, about a half mile from the home. A check revealed Boyd was the truck’s registered owner. A deputy found Boyd and Tasered him.

Boyd later admitted he had been drinking tequila, dropped acid and smoked marijuana prior to arriving at the home. He said he did not know the homeowner and did not know “where he was at,” the report said. Boyd was transported to Advent Health in Tavares where he was medically cleared.

He was arrested on two felony charges of burglary with assault and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $51,000 bond.
