A beer-drinking boater was arrested at Singletary Park in Leesburg when several empty beer cans were found in his vessel.
Ian Cagney Nichols, 35, of Wildwood, was approaching the Singletary Park boat ramp at about 7 p.m. on Memorial Day when a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officer conducted a safety check on his boat. Nichols showed signs of impairment, according to the arrest report. His eyes were bloodshot and watery.
He had been traveling alone in the boat and the FWC officer “observed several empty beer cans in a compartment behind the driver seat and a beer can at the helm where he was operating the vessel,” the report said. Nichols admitted he had been drinking beer.
He performed poorly on field sobriety exercises. He refused to provide a breath sample.
He was arrested on a charge of boating under the influence and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
