It took six people and two doses of a sedative to calm and restrain a 21-year-old Leesburg woman who was arrested on drug charges after she mistakenly tried to enter a home in Eustis on a recent morning.

Alexis Olivia Kasey, of 33737 Shady Acres Road, also reportedly scratched a Eustis Police officer and kicked a Lake County Fire lieutenant in the head while being detained. She was charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer/firefighter, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis.

The officer responded to a home on Pinetree Road in Eustis about a home burglary in progress. The resident of the home reported that an unknown female – later identified as Kasey – was banging on their windows and door and pulling on the door trying to get inside the home. She was also screaming that her child was inside the residence, according to the police report.

When the officer arrived, Kasey was still on the front porch and banging on the front door. The officer asked her to step back and provide her personal information. After running Kasey’s information through dispatch, the officer discovered she had an active warrant in Orange County. Kasey appeared disoriented and delusional, so the Lake County Fire Department was called to check on her, the report said.

While they were waiting for the fire department to arrive, Kasey became more agitated and started yelling loudly. The officer decided to place her in handcuffs for everybody’s safety. Kasey refused to comply and had to be taken to the lawn to be secured. While being placed in the handcuffs, she repeatedly kicked the officer in the back and used her fingernails to scratch the officer’s hands, causing several lacerations to his forearms and fingers. Because of her continued aggression, Kasey was placed in four-point restraints, according to the report.

Lake County Fire and EMS personnel arrived and decided to take Kasey to the hospital for altered mental status. She had calmed down and appeared to be complying with the medical personnel’s directions, so she was released to be put on a stretcher. After being loaded into the ambulance on the stretcher, Kasey started kicking and punching wildly. She kicked a fire lieutenant in the head, causing him to have neck pain. EMS had to administer two separate doses of a sedative and use six personnel to calm and restrain her, the report said.

Kasey’s belongings were searched and the officer found three empty prescription bottles of alprazolam and one prescription bottle of alprazolam that contained eight pills. There also was a golden-colored unmarked container with 25 1/2 rectangular pills identified as Xanax (alprazolam). No prescription was found for these pills, according to the report.

Kasey was taken to AdventHealth Waterman Hospital. After being released from the hospital, she was taken to the Lake County Jail, where she was released on $23,000 bond. Kasey is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on May 10.
