Groundbreaking ceremony for Leesburg Teen Enrichment Center rescheduled

The groundbreaking ceremony for Leesburg’s new Teen Enrichment Center has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16.

The ceremony will be held at the Leesburg Recreational Complex site, 1851 Griffin Road.

The facility, to be located adjacent to the existing gymnasium building, will encompass 10,045 square feet. The $2.75 million project is being developed in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida.

Plans call for a single point of entry leading to 10 multipurpose rooms. The rooms will accommodate recreational, educational and enrichment programs for elementary, middle and high school students and include a career room, a computer lab and a sound studio. There also will be separate outdoor areas for youth and teens. The facility was designed by CPH Engineering and will be built by Evergreen Construction.

The goal is to have the center open by early 2022.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony. For more information, call the Public Works Department at (352) 435-9442.
