Harry Joseph Bowman

Harry Joseph Bowman, 77, of Leesburg, Florida, died Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Silver Lake Assisted Living Village with his loving wife by his side.

Harry is survived by his wife Diane Bowman of Leesburg, Florida, his daughter Julianne Kaye (Greg) of Easley, SC, his son, Jared Bowman of Prairie City, OR, and his 3 grandson’s, Camden, Carter and Cayson Kaye.

He leaves behind his sisters Gladys Johnson (John), Helen Soblowski, brother Larry Bowman, and 12 loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest sister Donna Landis.

Harry was born on January 15, 1944 in Akron, OH to parents Morton and Frances Bowman. He graduated from Hudson High school,1962 and Kent State University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and 1971 with a Masters Degree in Music Education. He taught both vocal and instrumental music for 32 years in Rootstown, OH, Brimfield, OH, and Northfield, OH. He married Diane Turcsanyi Bowman in 1974 and the couple have 2 children together and helped raise 26 foster children.

Harry was deeply involved with family and friends. He was dedicated to Boy Scouts of America as a youth and finished 25 years later as Assistant Scoutmaster. He was actively involved in the MacCallum Highland Pipe Band as pipe sergeant and taught bagpiping lessons. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. His family and friends will always remember him as a great listener, a loving husband and father. He was a faithful church goer and rarely missed a service. He was a member of Saint Philip Lutheran Church in Mount Dora, Florida.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 11:00-1:00 at the Scottish Highland Clubhouse at 1 Scottish Highlands Blvd. Leesburg, FL 34788
