Area residents asked to report manatee sightings in local water bodies

Area residents and boaters are being asked to help watch out for manatees that are in the Harris Chain of Lakes and the Ocklawaha River year-round.

Here are some tips from the Lake County Water Authority to help ensure the safety of the gentle giants:

  • Use extreme caution when boating near the shoreline;
  • Check your boat prop before starting it; and
  • Never approach or feed a manatee.
