A crew from Lake County Fire Rescue is being lauded for saving a baby owl that had fallen 40 feet from its nest.
A Good Samaritan had noticed the displaced owl and called for help. The caller had placed in the injured bird in a box while waiting for the fire crew to arrive.
After arriving at the incident, firefighters contacted the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland. They were told to put the owl on a tree branch as close to the nest as possible and the mother owl – who watched the entire rescue from high above – would get her baby back into the next.
