Leesburg man charged with sexually battering girlfriend

Julian Lamar Evangelist

A Leesburg man was arrested after he allegedly tried to force his unwilling live-in girlfriend to have sex with him.

Julian Lamar Evangelist, 28, of 207 Hanson Ave., was charged with domestic sexual battery in connection with the incident, which happened March 22.

The victim told a Leesburg Police officer that she and Evangelist, with whom she has two children, were lying in bed at around 10:30 p.m. when he asked her if she wanted to have sex. She told him she did not. The victim said Evangelist put his hands down her pants and started rubbing her, according to the police report.

The victim said she told Evangelist to stop touching her and tried to remove his hand. She said he didn’t listen and then inserted his fingers into her vagina. The victim said she continued to say no and tried to remove Evangelist’s hand, but she wasn’t strong enough. After screaming “no” several times, the victim was able to jump up and remove his hand from her vagina, the report said.

The victim said she jumped out of the bed and ran to the bathroom with Evangelist following her. She said she was able to shut the door and lock it to keep him from coming into the bathroom. Evangelist tried to force the door open but was unable to, according to the report.

The victim said Evangelist shouted he was going to kill her and then kill himself. She said she shouted that she was going to call the police department for assistance, and this caused Evangelist to leave the residence, the report said.

The victim said Evangelist has sexually battered her in the past in addition to physically striking her in various places. She said she didn’t report the incidents out of fear of what Evangelist might do to her, according to the report.

The officer was unable to locate Evangelist, so a probable-cause affidavit was completed. Evangelist was arrested 4:30 p.m. March 23 at the police station, 115 E. Magnolia St. He was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was still being held Friday night on $10,000 bond. Evangelist will appear in Lake County Court on April 19.
