Gerald Blackburn

Gerald William Blackburn, 82, of Leesburg FL passed away on Saturday February 27, 2021 at Cornerstone Hospice, Traverse Florida.

He was born September 1st, 1938 to Joe and Marge (Donaldson) Blackburn in Steubenville, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barb (Mortemore) Blackburn. He is survived by his sons Matt Blackburn, of Livonia Mi, and Jason and Lori Blackburn of Twentynine Palms CA, 2 grandchildren Amethyst Blackburn and Jose’ “Gabe” Blackburn and his brother, David and Carol Blackburn of Gaithersburg, MD

Gerald attended Wintersville Ohio High School, received Bachelor’s Degree from Bowling Green State University, of Bowling Green Ohio, and a Master Degree from University of Northern Colorado, UNC and a Member of the Phi Tau Fraternity.

Gerald was a long time resident of Hudson Mi. Where he was a long time educator at Hudson Area Schools, where he was the Band Director, of the Pride of Tiger Town, of the Hudson High School’s Marching and Concert Bands from 1965 through 1983. He continued to teach Government, History, and Physcology until his retirement. Gerald was also very active in community service, serving on the Hudson Planning Commision from 1973 to 1979, on the City Council from 1979 to 1995, as Mayor Pro Tem from November 1988 to November 1992, and as Mayor from November 1992 to November 1994. Gerald was also active with the United Methodist Church as Choir Member for many years and with the Congregational Church as the organist.

After retirement Gerald and Barb moved to Leesburg FL, where they both were active members of the Morrison United Methodist Church of Leesburg, as members of the Choir and Bell Choir.
