A Leesburg man has been accused of the long-running sexual abuse of a young girl.
An investigation was launched earlier this month after the girl’s mother discovered a pornographic image that had been texted to her daughter by 20-year-old Travis Sharod Fenderson. When the mother saw the image and raised the matter with her daughter, she began to cry.
The girl told investigators that the abuse began in 2014 when she was 9 or 10 years old. She described in detail the abuse that had taken place over several years and was interrupted only when Fenderson was in prison on drug charges from March 21, 2019 until Feb. 27 of this year.
Last week, Fenderson was interviewed by Leesburg police and claimed the girl’s story was “a misunderstanding.” He claimed he meant to send the pornographic image to someone else.
He is facing charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and computer transmission of material harmful to a minor. He was being held this past weekend at the Lake County Jail.
