Lake-Sumter State College and the Lake-Sumter State College Foundation are pleased to announce the 2020 Distinguished Alumni & Hall of Fame Award winners.
This year’s winners represent a broad cross section of our community – a veterinarian, a Marine second lieutenant, a law enforcement sergeant, an engineer, a librarian and a business owners.
“We’re proud of our more than 25,000 Lake-Sumter State College alumni who are making positive impacts in our local community, Central Florida, and beyond each day,” says Dr. Laura Byrd, VP of Institutional Advancement and executive director of the LSSC Foundation. “We are excited to recognize the contributions of this year’s winners in giving back to LSSC and serving their communities.”
This year’s Distinguished Alumni winners are:
- Heart of a Volunteer Award: Robert Elmatti 2005;
- Community Engagement Award: Sgt. Frederick Jones, 2011;
- Professional Achievement Award: Candice Humphrey 2006;
- Valor Award: Marine 2nd Lt. Brianne Cook 2017; and
- Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award: Kylie Smalt 2017.
This year’s Hall of Fame winners are:
- LSSC Staff Award: Carolyn Scott;
- LSSC Faculty Award: Nora Rackley;
- LSSC Trustee Award: Tim Morris; and
- LSSC Athletics Award: Mike Matulia.
Award winners will be recognized at a celebration event on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. at Mission Inn Resort & Club. Those wishing to attend can RSVP at www.lssc.edu/alumnihof.
