Crews from Leesburg Fire Rescue battled a kitchen fire in a local residence Saturday while Lake County firefighters rescued four cats from the burning structure.
Crews from Leesburg Fire Rescue Station 61 responded to the blaze after receiving reports of a residential structure fire. A battalion chief was the first to arrive and reported light smoke showing from the residence, a Leesburg Fire Rescue report states.
Engine 61 arrived a short time later and its crew had to force open the front door to make access to the residence. They went into fast attack mode with a water can and extinguished the blaze, then removed the damaged stove, the report says.
Units from Lake County Fire Rescue also responded and removed the cats. They used pet oxygen masks to revive the animals, which all made a complete recovery and were returned to their owners, who weren’t at home when the fire broke out. No one was injured during the incident.
