Alice R. Schofer

Alice Schofer

Alice R. Schofer, 87, of Leesburg, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, September 6th, 2020.

Born December 4, 1932 in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of Helen Swald and Carl Buttenschon. Alice lived in the Utica area until 1962, when she moved with her husband and three children to Wappingers Falls, NY. She was married to Donald F. Schofer for 45 years until his passing in 2002.

Alice enjoyed autumn weather, knitting, reading mysteries, and all kinds of theater. While residing in Wappingers Falls, she spent many years volunteering as a Sunday School teacher, a Roy C Ketcham band parent, and as a driver and secretary for the Klokken Ringers handbell choir of the New Hackensack Reformed Church. After Alice’s children were grown, she went to work for Howland/Steinbach for several years, where she happily took advantage of her employee discount on costume jewelry and clothing. Alice relocated to Arlington Ridge Community in Leesburg, Florida in the spring of 2019, and loved going for golf cart rides and watching the sandhill cranes, golfers, and palm trees.

Alice is survived by three children: son Larry Schofer & daughter-in-law Michele Heiland of Louisville, KY; son Cliff Schofer & daughter-in-law Lori of Ellington, CT; and daughter Judy Goldberg & son-in-law Mark of Leesburg, FL. Alice also leaves five beloved grandchildren: Daniel Schofer (& wife, Lynn), Connor Goldberg, Anna Schofer, Brendan Goldberg, and Nathan Schofer; one particularly adorable great granddaughter, Aubrey Schofer; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to The Majestic Theater at majestictheater.com.
