Leesburg man arrested after caught behind wheel of stolen BMW

Brenten Kyler Salerno

A Leesburg man was arrested after he was caught behind the wheel of a stolen BMW.

Brenten Kyler Salerno, 24, had been driving the blue 2002 BMW at 9:45 a.m. Thursday when he was spotted at a BP convenience store in Okahumpka, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. A woman was traveling in the car with him, but she said she didn’t know the vehicle was stolen and had paid Salerno $5 for a ride.

Officers found that Salerno’s driver’s license had been suspended in October for failure to pay a financial obligation.

Salerno complained that he was having a medical problem and was transported by ambulance to UF Health Leesburg Hospital. Upon his release, he was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was booked on $5,000 bond. He is facing a charge of theft of motor vehicle.
