A 28-year-old Leesburg woman and a 70-year-old Ocala man were killed Sunday in a head-on collision on U.S. Hwy. 441 that left three others critically injured.
The crash took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. when a northbound SUV driven by the Leesburg woman crossed over the center median and struck a sedan driven by a 61-year-old Ocala woman, a Florida Highway Patrol report states. The SUV came to rest on the west shoulder facing east, while the sedan ended up in the southbound outside lane facing in a southwest direction.
The Ocala man, a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The Leesburg woman was pronounced dead at Ocala Regional Medical Center, the FHP report says.
Two children in the SUV – a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy – both of Leesburg were critically injured, as was the driver of the sedan, a 61-year-old Ocala woman. The crash remains under investigation, the FHP report says.
