Multiple crews from Leesburg Fire Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire at a residence not far from Gator Harley-Davidson on Sunday.
When firefighters arrived at the home in the 300 block of Nebraska Street, located behind Enterprise Rent-A-Car on U.S. Hwy. 441, they found smoke coming from two sides of the residence. They quickly made entry into the house and discovered the fire had erupted in the kitchen but already was out. It hadn’t advanced past the stove and microwave but it destroyed both appliances and heavily damaged some cabinets.
The resident told firefighters he had been boiling water and left it on the stove to use the restroom. His power went out while he was in the bathroom so he went to investigate and discovered that both appliances were on fire, a report states.
Crews aboard Engines 61, 62 and 64, along with Ladder 63, a battalion chief and a unit from Lake EMS responded to the blaze. Once it was determined that there were no flames in the ceiling above the kitchen, firefighters ventilated the home to remove the remaining smoke.
There were no injuries reported and the damage was estimated at $13,000, the report says.
