Leesburg man quickly nabbed on stolen bike after report of burglary

James Adrian Loper II

A Leesburg man was nabbed on a stolen bicycle recently after a Grand Island-area resident reported a burglary at his home.

The resident was awakened by several notifications on his cell phone after his surveillance cameras being activated in his backyard. He quickly reviewed the footage and found that a man without a shirt had been burglarizing three of his golf carts and a shed for several hours before stealing a bicycle and leaving his property, a Lake County Sheriff’s Office report states.

Shortly after the victim reported the crime, Dep. Gary Abbott located a man, later identified as 31-year-old James Adrian Loper II, matching the description from the burglary. He was riding a bicycle on County Road 44 in the pre-dawn hours with no required lighting equipment, the report says.

After being read his rights, Loper admitted to the crime and was taken into custody. The bicycle was immediately returned to the victim, the report says.
