Two men are behind bars in the Lake County Jail in connection with a recent burglary at a Sorrento church.
Lake County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Sorrento Christian Center on Wednesday, July 17, after an employee approached the building and noticed that the door had been opened and the frame damaged. She called 911 for help and waited for deputies to arrive at the church, located at 32441 County Road 437.
A short time later, a witness reported seeing two men dressed in dark clothing and similar in height leaving the church just prior to the employee’s arrival, a sheriff’s office report states.
Another Lake County deputy spotted two men, later identified as 28-year-old Nicholas Regan Worlds and 24-year-old Logan Chase Markham, walking through yards less than a quarter of a mile away. While being interviewed by deputies, Worlds and Markham were found to be in possession of several items that were reported stolen from the church, as well as another person’s Social Security card and fishing license, the report says.
Worlds and Markham were taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail. Worlds, who lives at 824 E 11th Ave. in Mount Dora and listed his occupation as a dishwasher, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure, petit theft and possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams. He was being held on $14,000 bond and is due in court on Aug. 12 at 8:30 a.m.
Markham, who lives at 25847 Westmoreland St. in Mount Plymouth, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure and larceny/petit theft. He was being held on $6,000 bond and also is due in court on Aug. 12 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charges.
Neither Worlds nor Markham are strangers to the Lake County legal system. Worlds has been held in the jail six times since May 2010 on charges – some more than once – of simple domestic battery, obstructing a witness from calling 911, criminal mischief, simple battery and possession and intent to sell marijuana within 1,000 feet of a place of worship or school, along with multiple probation violations.
Markham has been held in the jail six times since June 2013 on probation violations and charges – some more than once – of resisting/obstructing a law enforcement officer with and without violence, burglary of a dwelling, grand theft, battery on a law enforcement officer, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
