Man with three prior battery convictions arrested in attack on woman in Lady Lake

Alexander Tanel Smith

A man with three previous battery convictions was arrested Friday in an attack on a woman in Lady Lake.

Alexander Tanel Smith, 28, of Leesburg, was jailed on $5,000 bond following his arrest after the alleged attack on the woman, who is the mother of his child.

Smith went to a home in the 700 block of Summit Street and pushed the woman into a wall and she fell to the floor, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The woman stood up again and Smith struck her six to seven times on the left side of her face, causing discoloration and swelling.

She was “barely able to open her mouth to speak,” the officer wrote in the arrest report.

Smith had been released Dec. 12 from the Lake County Jail after serving a 30-day sentence on a battery charge.

In 2014, he served four months in the Lake County Jail after an attack on a woman.

Smith was also convicted of battery in 2012.
